 DEADMENCO

A brand new, one-of-a-kind musical exploration - a merging of two different spheres of Juanito's musical journey!

The Making of DeadMenco

Juanito attended his first Grateful Dead concert just before age 13, going on to attend another 16 Dead shows before getting completely swept away by an obsession for flamenco. His early experience as an avid Dead fan left it's musical mark, notably in Juanito's deep appreciation of Jerry Garcia's melodic poignancy, the spiritual seeking of the band and their total passion for improvisation. Only now have things come full circle into this merging of musical worlds, resulting in this truly unique exploration of the legendary group's music and spirit.

Juanito at age fifteen (1989)..part DeadHead, part flamenco guitarist!

In an inspiring meeting last October with David Meerman Scott - life-long Grateful Dead fan and author of numerous books including the recent "Marketing Lessons from the Grateful Dead" - the seeds of this idea were sown, sprouting their first shoots this June at a concert in Londonderry New Hampshire's, Tupelo Music Hall. The two-song medley  (seen below) was generously captured on video by David, and his wife Yukari.

The performance was a blast and the response phenomenal, paving the way for continued exploration of this unexpected musical marriage!

Enjoy!
